As we reflect on this past year, we’re inspired by all that our industry has accomplished in the face of unprecedented uncertainty. As demand for self-care options continues to increase and evolve, the role of CHPA and the CHPA Educational Foundation – connecting, educating, and advocating for its member companies – has never been more important. Together, we are making tremendous progress on our vision of happier, healthier lives through responsible self-care.

Despite the prolonged challenges imposed upon us by the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021 was a year of acceleration and transformation for CHPA and the consumer healthcare industry. As demand for self-care options continues to increase and evolve, the role of CHPA – connecting, educating, and advocating for its member companies – has never been more important. Together, we are making tremendous progress shaping the future of consumer healthcare. Yet, there is still much to be accomplished.
DSHEA Modernization
CHPA is working with Capitol Hill and the broader supplement community to develop policy proposals and work with leaders in Congress to update and modernize the dietary supplement regulatory framework.
CHPA Ushered Historic Legislative Victories for PSE-Containing Medications in 2021
For the first time in 15 years, allergy suffering families from coast-to-coast are able to purchase PSE containing cold and allergy medications from behind the counter, without the need of a physician’s prescription.
Rx-to-OTC Switch
The OTC Switch Working Group has been busy in 2021, focused on advocating for the release of a Nonprescription Drug Safe Use Regulatory Expansion (NSURE) proposed rule; but equally important, the group is focused on FDA and its prioritization of Rx-to-OTC switch.
